Day 1-Heard first bull at 8:06 am. Just as the sun was cresting
the mountain. Talk about an awesome combination. Worked bull
and set up on him several times. Moving closer each time. Fourth
set up saw bull coming 150-200 yards away. Wayne brought bull
in, he was bugling the whole way in. Bull was at 8 yards and
standing facing me with drool dripping from his mouth and looking
right through me, thought he was going to run me over! Wayne
bugled the other way and raked a tree, turning bull and he walked
past me at 6 yards broadside. I shot him at 6 yards through
both lungs with my Allegheny Mountain Recurve. He nearly ran
Wayne over and I watched him collapse at 80 yards. He was a
7x7 and scored 308 green score Pope & Young. Hunt was over
at 9:30 am. But then the work began. Wow what an experience!
Two and a half-hours hunting and a record book bull! The rest
of my hunt time I spent going with my buddy Joe Cunningham to
video his hunt. In all we saw or heard at least 13 bull and
had three within 25 to 35 yards. Two PA hunters and two Pope
and Young Bulls!
Joe Cunningham, Emporium, PA 814 - 486 - 3235. Guided

This was my first hunt with Wayne Hill Outfitting. I heard
bulls everyday that we hunted and coaxed several within bow
ranged. I saw a total of five good bulls during my stay and
hand two shot opportunities. On the third day of the hunt I
missed a large 6x6 at 25 yards and struck a pine tree. My luck
changed on the 5th day of the hunt as Larry called
in a beautiful 6x7 bull into bow range. I arrowed the bull at
15 yards and he went less than 50 yards. Wayne runs a top-notch
outfit. The knowledgeable guides, food and accommodations truly
made this a hunt of a lifetime. Hope to return to this beautiful
part of the country in the future. Thank you to Larry, Wayne,
and Annette.

My eight-day archery elk hunt was a short one, killing a young
6x6 the first mornings hunt. Jacob was my guide and I was surprised
to find out that I was his first successful archery elk hunter.
Jacob being about half my age ( I am 40) was a little hard to
keep up with, but I'm glad he was aggressive. I wish my elk
would have been a little bigger, but I guess I could look for
bigger one sometime in the future. From what I heard and seen,
there's some good ones here. Jacob allowed me to go with him
2 days after I got my bull as he was hunting for a bear. As
we watched over a clearing on a mountainside, we heard 2a bulls,
seen 3 cows, and seen one of the bulls we heard about a200 yards
away. He appeared to be a big 6x6, bigger than the one I got.
Wayne and Annette really take care of you (you'll not go hungry)!

This was my first elk hunt. Heard bulls every day. Had some
in at 35-40 yards but no shots. Saw a good 7x8. Had a good hunt.
Food is great. Be sure to be in good physical condition. Hope
to be back next year. Wayne has an excellent operation.
Roy Kauffman, Holmesville, OH, 330 - 279 - 2307. Guided

This was my first elk hunt and I had lots of fun. Saw six bulls,
some real close. But didn't get a shot off. Ray Hill did an
excellent job. If I go elk hunting again I'll be back with Wayne's
outfit. Wayne Hill has a great outfit and great food.

First day of hunt Joseph positioned us between two bulls, they
hung up about 30 yards. Jacob's client killed 6x6 bull in same
area; we spent the rest of the day packing out. Second day Joseph
and Chad called in 5x5 to about 12 yards, waited for it to take
one more step from behind brush, but winded me, shot as it was
running away, missed. Not more than 15 minutes later Joseph
called in a 7x8, that's right a 7x8 to within 20 yards. Drew
back bow and my peep sight was out of alignment. Tried to fix
and drew back second time. Bull was now at 40 yards. Peep sight
was still out of whack. I am sure I will have nightmares about
this once in a lifetime opportunity. Third day Joseph called
in a 5x5 to within 20 yards, could not get shot
brush too
thick. Second bull came in at same time, hung up at about 30
yards. Fourth day had 6x6 come with9n 20 yards, could not get
him to stop long enough to get shot. Heard additional 5 bulls.
None would come in. Saw one other 5x5. That evening Joseph called
in a 6x6 to about 7 yards, shot and hit him a little too far
back. Started raining. Day 5 spent all morning looking for 6x6
I had hit. Could not find. As we were heading out Wayne and
Joseph call in a very large 6x8 to within 15 yards. Winded hunters
below us and ran off. Days 6,7, & 8 we had two 6x6 bulls
in close got a shot at large 6x6 at about 35 yards, missed by
inches. Although I did not get any thing, this trip has been
the most exciting and memorable elk hunt I have ever had. Thanks
to Wayne and Annette for the great food and lodging. Hope to
be back next year.
P S You must be in good shape to hunt this type of country.

Cannot say enough about the guide service. Again I was treated
with courtesy and respect for my 4th hunt with this
outfit. Archery elk hunting at it's finest, up close and personal.
I made a judgement call on a moving bull (6x6) and tried to
force and arrow through some brush at 18 yards. Deflected shot
over back. Never did find second arrow I sent in bull's direction
at 30+ yards. Physical hunt with several other bulls in close,
but no more shots/ Saw 4 real trophy bulls at long range
so
they are here!! Food is good and lodging is comfortable. Hope
to return for 5th hunt at age 60 in 1999.
Stacey Michaelis, Palestine, AR 870 - 581 - 2821. Guided
by Larry Riddering.
First day heard 4 bulls but they were not interested in playing.
Second day I bull at 18 yards, 5x5 or better, shot in shoulder,
I screwed that up. Heard bulls every day at least four or more.
Seventh day, bull at 17 yards, very large bull, shot in neck.
Once again I did not make the shot. This is an excellent outfit,
with excellent guides. Food and lodging is very good. Looking
forward to coming back again very soon.
Brad Roberts, Palestine, AR 870 - 581 - 2269. Guided
by Chad Montgomery.
First morning two hours into the hunt I missed a 5x5 at 15
steps. That evening I had a 6x6 at 80 yards, didn't get a shot.
Second day heard three bulls, they wouldn't work with us. Third
day rain, we got very wet! Fourth day I had a 5x5 at 30 steps,
shot, we tracked about 400 yards and I got him. Great place
to hunt. Good food. Nice place to sleep.

First time elk hunting. Came here with Craig Nelson who highly
recommended Wayne Hill Outfitting. Jacob did an absolutely excellent
job. He had bulls going all around us everyday except one. Had
a nice 5x6 come in to 20 yards directly behind a tree, no shot.
Got a very large bull to about 70 yards and a herd bull at the
same time up over the bank, no shots. Last day got a nice 5x7
to come to 10 yards. Made the shot and got him. Nice bull! Excellent
time, food, and lodging. Great job by the guides. I will be
back again, hopefully soon!
Craig Nelson, Shawville, PA, 814 - 765 - 4315. Guided

Joe did an excellent job! Had bulls coming in every day. A
lot of tremendous bulls. Fifth day we found a nice 5x6 bull
dead. Sixth day put a stalk on a 6x7 and 4 cows. Joe got me
within 40 yards in a clear cut. Drew bow and the bull bolted,
tried a long shot anyway. Fell short. Lots of bulls, lots of
fun. One of the best hunts I ever had. I will be back soon.

I've been here many, many times before and I keep coming back.
Most of the other hunters I meet here are repeat clients also.
The reason is simple. It is consistently good. Wayne Hills system
of training his guides makes them all very competent at what
they do. The food, lodging, vehicles and the area are excellent.
I have had the opportunity to have hunted all over the world
(almost) and this is my favorite place to go. I could only go
on one more hunt, this is where I would take it.
Darrick Bantley, Summerhill, PA, 814 - 495 - 4414. Guided
by Ray and Wayne Hill.
This was my second time here and again I've had opportunities
to kill bulls. I've seen elk about everyday. I had lots of fun.
Third day heard elk bugle 150 yards away. He came right in at
about 5 yards in front of me behind some brush. Then walked
out into an opening at 15 yards. He was small so I decided not
to shoot. Fourth day called in a nice 5x5 to about 17 yards.
Other bull with cows came from opposite direction at about the
same time and got our wind. Almost had him. Last day, Wayne
called in a 7x8 to 20 yards, too much brush to get the shot.
He stayed for about 10 minutes, then got our wind and walked
away. We left and waited about an hour and moved in from top
of the mountain. Called the same bull in. He was walking 7 yards
almost broadside. He then turned in my direction and walked
straight for me. As soon as the bull touched my broadhead with
his neck I wasn't sure what to do. So I didn't want him to walk
into my arrow so I twitched my bow and scared him half to death.
As he started to go he jumped and spun around at the same time
I drew my recurve and shot as quick as I could. By that time
he had turned just enough that I think my arrow grazed the side
of him while he crashed off. I had a shot at 3 1/2 yards it
happened so fast!
