Bulls were quiet most days. First day had 5x5 and 3x3 plus 6 cows
in to30 yards, before I could shoot they winded us and were gone.
Worked twomore bulls later in hunt, but hung up 60 to 70 yards out.
Day 8 - rainand fog. Wayne and Annette will do everything they can
to make your huntenjoyable and successful. Be prepared to hunt hard
and have a positiveattitude. Will be back soon.
Clay Behm, Jefferson, PA * 412-883-3076, hunted 9/16-9/23
Guided by Jason Hill
This was my second archery elk hunt with Wayne Hill Outfitting.
Everyoneinvolved works very hard to please the hunter. I saw six
trophy elk, two5x5's and four 6x6's. Located and worked other bull
elk. Weather conditionsless than favorable most of the week. Jason
did top notch job to work mewithin 25 yards of 1 huge 6x6 and 15
yards of another monster 6x6. Elkstopped with vitals behind tree
then took off. One more step and I would'vehad the ideal shot at
a highly ranked P&Y big game animal. Jason stoppedthat bull
with a call and also had another bull bugling at us simultaneouslyaround
200 yards. We went after him until the wind changed and messed thingsup.
Also hunted bear in Montana. My guide, Chad, worked hard and we
almosthad a chance at a big cinnamon colored black bear, but we
ran out of daylight.Physical conditioning is a major factor. I've
learned more about hunting elk,and myself each time I've gone; see
you next year at Wayne hill Outfitting.

Russ Keeler, Suisan, CA * 707-421-0822, hunted 9/7-9/14
Guided by Byron Miller
Hunted for five days, no luck - on evening of 6th day my guide called
in a4x5 bull within 15 yards! When I released the arrow lock, bull
bolted away. But guide called him, and he stopped at 30 feet. I put
an arrow right thruboth lungs and he dropped twenty five yards later.
What an experience! I'llbe back next year with my brother. Great
guides, great accommodations,great food.
Tony Flynn, Escondido, CA * 619-741-4101, hunted 9/7-9/14
Guided by Ray Hill
Hunted eight days, saw game everyday. Passed up small bulls. My
guide, Ray, called a 6x5 bull (real tall) to within 25 yards, broadside.
I shot and thebull moved forward. I hit him behind the ribs, trailed
for a mile, losthim. Excellent food, great guides. This is my third
year with Wayne HillOutfitting. I have taken nice bulls and bucks
on previous hunts. P.S. Getin shape.
Vincent Leonard, Corning, NY * 607-962-3390, hunted 9/7-9/14
Guided by Brian Morris
Had bulls answer seven out of eight days, but none would come in
close fora shot. Accommodations are excellent and Annette provides
outstanding meals. The guides are knowledgeable and work extremely
hard. They put the huntersinto areas that contain bulls. Wayne oversees
the entire operation to ensureconformity to his high standards.
If you come, get in shape by finding thesteepest hills you can.
Wear the boots you will be hunting in and walk up,down, and across
for several hours at a time.
Dennis Moore, Osgood, IN * 812-689-4866, hunted 9/16-9/23
Guided by Ray Hill
First day out with Ray about two hours into the hunt Ray called,
bullanswered on other side of the hill. We went to him. Bull came
into 25 yardsfacing us. Nice 6x6. Wind got us. That night went for
short hunt close totown. Up the hill about a mile called a few times,
got one grunt up the hill.Walked up on rock, Ray said "notch
arrow". Bull in at 8 yards, draw bow, could not shoot. Let bow
down. Bull walked up hill few steps at18 yards shot bull, he took
two steps went down. Nice 5 point. First elk...I'm very happy. Thanks
Wayne, Annette, Ray, and everyone else for 2 greathunts. Be back
soon.
Darrell Raines, St. Cloud, MN * 612-688-7667, hunted 9/16-9/23
Guided by Wayne Hill
I have hunted with Wayne on five rifle hunts. This was my first
archeryhunt. To be close to these animals was great. Saw two large
bulls, no shot.Saw elk everyday. Food was great. Be back next year.
Barry Dore, Indiana, PA * 412-357-0725, hunted 9/16-9/23
Guided by Larry Riddering
I have hunted with Wayne for a number of years. Passed up a "small"6x6
first morning. Small because last year's elk was a 6x7. The weather
wasthe wettest I've seen and had a lot to do with why the elk didn't
cooperate.Did see 3x4, 5x5 and part of the antler of a large bull.
As usual, thingsthat we could control went very well. Be back next
year.
Kyle Dickens & Clifford Dull, Manchester & Westminster,
MD *410-848-0746, hunted 9/16-9/23
Guided by Byron Miller and Ken Trontel
Great hunt, long and hard. Wet weather all week. Bulls in close
but noshot. They were quiet all week. Food and lodging triple AAA's.
If you planto hunt here, be in shape and have good rubber boots.
Ron Stienmiller, Ashland, OH * 419-281-9854, hunted 9/16-9/23
Guided by Mike Hughes
Another outstanding elk hunt in Montana. My second year with Wayne.Hunted
eight days. Had three LARGE bulls within 75 yards. Got oneshot
at 18 yards. Missed. Thick brush. Very physical. Excellent job byWayne,
Annette, and guide. See you next year.
Jim Doll, Delaware, NJ * 908-475-4144, hunted 9/16-9/23
Guided by Chris Perry
What can be said. Second time with this outfit - second great hunt.
Sevenof eight days had bugles and action. Missed on best chance
after 6x6 came inthree times on day 5. Chris did super job with
an old man (57). Severalbulls in close but not clear shooting in
the brush. Physical hunt - up and down the mountains with a lot
of sidehilling. If you like up close andpersonal - try archery elk
with Wayne and Annette. Nice friendly atmospherewith good food and
a group of other hunters that enjoy the sport.
Todd Woods, Bicknell, IN * 812-735-2416, hunted 9/16-9/23
Guided by Dan Muir and Ray H.
Saw four nice bulls during the week. One called to within 15 yards
by Ray,but no shot due to thich screen of pines. Several cows sighted
during theweek; one moose and one bear. This country is demanding,
physically, butthe game is here. Guides did a good job. Always felt
that we would see elk.The lodge is very well done and provided great
food and facilities. Thanksto Wayne, Annette, Ray and Dan and the
rest of the staff for a nice hunt.
James Askew, Garland, TX * 214-271-3821, hunted 9/16-9/23
Guided by Bryan Morris
The week started wet, cloudy, rainy and cool. The elk also started
thatway. The second day Bryan and I made contact with a three point.
The feistylittle guy could not bring himself too close with what
he must have thoughtwas a bad boy so I did not have to decide whether
or not to take him. Thebalance of the time we had some responses,
but no contact. The week endedwet, cloudy, rainy and cool. The Wayne
Hill operation will provide youwith a great hunting opportunity.
I will try to make it four in a rowin 1997.
Craig Nelson, Shawville, PA * 814-765-4315, hunted 9/25-10/2
Guided by Jay Hill
Talked to bulls 6 days out of 8. On day number four Jay called in
giant6x6 to 25 yards. I screwed up set-up by drawing bow too early.
Will beback next year to try to get it right. Lots of bulls, lots
of excitement.Great hunt. Thanks again Jay.
Al Byrne, Ebensburg, PA * 814-472-8720, hunted 9/25-10/2
Guided by Ray Hill
First archery hunt. The bulls were quiet the first and second day,
thenthe action started. Ray was a great guide and called a nice
bull in veryclose. I positioned myself wrong and did not get a shot.
Worked a 5x5later in the hunt but would not come close enough to
get a shot. It wasa great hunt with great meals and lots of excitement.
This is hunting inthe true sense of the word. I'll be back - Thanks!
